Dr. Timothy Terranova, who has served as Deputy Superintendent for the past 5½ years in the West Irondequoit Central School District, was appointed Thursday night as the next Superintendent of the Victor Central School District. He succeeds Dawn Santiago-Marullo, who retired last July. Terranova is scheduled to start in his new role on Feb. 13.

“West Irondequoit is a special place and for 27 years I have seen this community consistently rally around its schools and ultimately its children to support excellence in education and a comprehensive approach to teaching the whole child,” said Terranova, 52, who also has overseen human resources and curriculum/instruction as Deputy Superintendent, his final stop in a wide-ranging, impactful career in the WICSD.

“We have an exceptional staff that goes above and beyond for our kids. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time learning and growing with them and see incredible hope for the future under the leadership of Dr. Aaron Johnson, the guidance of an exemplary staff and the promise of children who consistently teach us more than we can ever teach them.”

Terranova’s career in education began as a teaching assistant in Brighton in 1992. He joined West Irondequoit a year later as a third-grade teacher. He became an Elementary Curriculum Coordinator, then an Assistant Principal at Irondequoit High School. Terranova spent the next 9½ years as Dake Junior High School’s Principal, leading the way toward significant academic improvement while creating a positive school culture and learning environment.

Terranova also served as Director of Personnel and Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Human Resources before taking on the role of Deputy Superintendent. He helped execute multi-year, strategic financial planning that balanced the needs of the community while supporting a high-achieving district.

“Throughout his tenure, Dr. Timothy Terranova has served our students, staff and community with passion and pride to inspire all learners,” WICSD Superintendent Dr. Aaron Johnson said.

“As a teacher, principal and central office administrator, his leadership has centered on fostering resilient and independent thinkers who work well together. On behalf of our school and community, I thank Tim for his service and the value he has added to the lives of countless individuals. We wish him all the best in his new role.”
