The Irondequoit DECA Club did it again, turning in a strong showing last week at the 59th annual State DECA Career Conference in Rochester. More than 2,200 business students from around the state competed in more than 50 events. Below are 20 IHS students (out of a record 48 who competed) who earned Top 10 status or better. A total of 37 first places were won.

Special mention goes to seniors Haley Power and Jenna Cusker for second place in Hospitality Services Team Decision Making and senior Jason Alexander and sophomore Victor Rozvora. Alexander was fifth in Accounting Principles; Rozvoa second in Principles of Marketing. Power, Cusker, Rozvora and Alexander qualified for DECA’s International event April 27-30 in Orlando.

IHS DECA advisors Lou DiCesare, Jeanine Lent and LaVon Bucciarelli were extremely impressed by the variety of events (14) in which students earned honors. “All students who competed are winners as they learned more about an area of business they are interested in, more about preparation, communication, teamwork, and leadership – whether or not they earned a medal or a trophy,” DiCesare wrote about his students.
