It is essential in today's society that all students be prepared
to be scientifically literate citizens. The West Irondequoit Central School
District science program challenges students to become familiar with, and recognize
the diversity and unity of the natural and physical world. Additionally, our
science program moves students toward understanding key concepts and principles
of science, as well as having a capacity for scientific thinking, and being
able to use scientific knowledge and thought process for the good of the individual
and of society.
The goals of West Irondequoit's science program include:
- Developing a fundamental understanding of key concepts and
unifying principles of science
- Encouraging curiosity, creativity, collaboration and a passion
to understand science
- Actively engaging students through an inquiry approach to
learning
- Developing a deep understanding between what students learn
and their own lives
- Understanding the role of mathematics and technology in the
fields of science
