The West Irondequoit Central School District Mathematics Program
provides for developing our students deep understanding of mathematical
concepts, focusing on both the content of mathematics as well as the
skills in processing needed to solve problems in a variety of contexts.
These process skills include problem solving, modeling/multiple
representations, connections, communication skills and reasoning.
Mathematics Vision Statement
Mathematics is a language necessary to successfully navigate an increasingly technological society. The West Irondequoit Mathematics Program provides a foundation in mathematics that encompasses content knowledge and process skills. This knowledge base is aligned with National and State Standards, as well as West Irondequoit outcomes, and serves to promote rigorous and transferable conceptual understandings with procedural fluency. Taking into consideration the diverse needs of the learners, instruction is differentiated and student-centered so that all students reach their maximum potential. As educators we are committed to developing critical thinkers and problem solvers who are mathematically literate citizens. To quote the mathematician Rene Descartes: “It is not enough to have a good mind. The main thing is to use it well.”
